Quality Control, Test Screenings

Film inspection at the highest level

Standard: DCI-Compliant

At BIG Studio, we test both the cinemas and the DCPs for the compatibility of both standards and adjust our Quality Control strategy to the conditions of your festival.

Finding and Avoiding Errors

The highest level of security is provided by the full-length screening of festival films. This also uncovers otherwise impossible-to-detect errors such as individual corrupt frames, wrongly scaled settings, sporadic sound and sync problems, and many other errors that could stand in the way of a successful world premiere.
Our team is excellently trained to recognize these errors and find suitable solutions. At every festival, we find new errors that have never occurred before. Especially at film premieres, the screening copies are often created under time pressure. This makes them prone to errors and makes checks indispensable.
To optimize costs, we also offer flexible random sample checks: You decide between a 25%, 50% or 75% check.

DCPs from BIG Studio

All DCPs that leave our studio are created and validated to the latest DCI standards as SMPTE DCP and checked for compatibility with the systems at your festival venues. Here, the four-eyes principle applies as a basic rule. Each DCP, created by a studio technician, is checked by another person.

Manual Technical Check

  • short content check (title, language version incl. existing subtitles, and length),
  • suitable color space conversion,
  • image format,
  • exact screen format,
  • frame rate
  • sound channel assignment and level,
  • CPL naming,
  • synchronicity of picture, sound and subtitles
  • removal of technical leaders, credits and more than 10 sec. Black screen

In-house Test Cinema

But we go one step further: In our own in-house cinema in Leipzig, we can conduct full-length test screenings for each individual DCP upon request, thus realizing even the highest quality standards. Because our experience has shown: Trust is good, control is better!
